Thanksgiving is for Everyone

Thursday, November 28, is American Thanksgiving. As we near the end of 2002 we have much to be thankful for. We encourage you to take some special time in the next week to thank God for all He has done this last year. . .

  • for His direction, guidance and wisdom in so many situations we faced.
  • for our necessary provision and those unexpected blessings throughout the year.
  • for His grace and mercy when we failed to act according to His will.
  • for His love reflected in the faces of our loved ones. for the quiet reassurance He planted in our hearts when we needed it most.
  • for the comfort He gave when we lost a loved one. for peace that passes all understanding.
  • for abilities we didn’t even know we had that began to grow this year.

These are just to get you started with your own list. Take some time with each member of your family to let them know how much they mean to you. When we live and work closely together all the time we can forget the benefits of a sincere thank you. Be sure to let those you work with and those who work for you know you thank God for them. A word of thanks can be the encouragement they need to carry on in the face of difficulties.

Character Formation and Influence

Mother’s Day may not be celebrated at your overseas post. But Peter’s Wife would like to take this opportunity to honor mothers.

Being a mother is a full-time job. Yet when we are living overseas we may have one or two other full-time jobs. Mother’s Day is a good time to remember the importance of mothering.

Our children are only with us for a few brief years. Our time of character formation and influence is very short. We want to use those years to the best advantage.

Women all over the world are longing for Valentine’s Day to be a romantic and special event. But Valentine’s Day is just once a year! Why not make your marriage relationship so special that you won’t have to wait all year to experience those cherished loving moments? Here is a simple acrostic …making it easy to memorize the pointers that will make every day Valentine’s Day in your life. The LORD will help you with this project…it is of special interest to Him!

V Value your husband …don’t take him for granted.
A Admire his manliness.
L Love him unconditionally…the way GOD loves…and the way that you want to be loved.
E Enjoy the time you get to share together…
N never, ever say, “divorce.”
T Take time to really listen to what he is saying.
I Intimacy is just for the two of you, created by GOD to richly enjoy.
N Nestle in his arms whenever possible.
E Each and every day say and do one thing you know pleases him…

Thank you, Gail, for sharing your acrostic with us for Valentine’s Day. When we are living in a different culture than our own, it is easy to forget the simple things that make for a good, strong marriage.

The Gift Exchange

by Mike Constantine

Christmas season is a time we set aside for giving and receiving gifts in celebration of the greatest gift ever given, the Lord Jesus. But it would be a sad thing to give a costly gift and then find out that it was never used or enjoyed.

Imagine your own personal gift exchange with Jesus. Think about Jesus sitting down with you to exchange gifts. Think what it would be like for Him to give you precious things and how you would feel after you had received them. Since we can’t receive anything from Him until we first give Him something, let’s begin our imaginary scene with you giving a gift to Jesus.
