Are You Tired?

It’s May, time to remember to honor mothers.

When I read this very familiar scripture, I was thinking of moms.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” –Matt. 11:28-30.

Is there any mom with a baby or children who is not tired and burdened? I haven’t met her! So, if you are tired and burdened, there is good news for you.

God knows what you are dealing with right now. He knows the day and night challenges of parenting. He knows you get frustrated with the constant demands. He knows that you worry about whether you are doing the right things for your child.

Thanksgiving

Ah, we are nearing the end of November. The trees have dropped their leaves. The days are getting shorter and crisper. Time to get a turkey and find all the makings of an American Thanksgiving Feast. Ooops, we’re not in Kansas anymore!

So how do we have Thanksgiving in a hot, sunny, always green place? Can it be Thanksgiving without the turkey, cranberry sauce, and green bean casserole? Of course it can! But it will be different.

Mine to Give Away

He was a special baby, this darling little boy sleeping so peacefully in his mother’s arms. He was a baby born to die . . . born to die the death of a criminal, though he would never commit a crime, never tell a lie, never even think an evil thought. Yet he was destined for such a death before he was born.

What does his mother think as she holds him, so close to her heart? How much does she know? The angel said this child he would be great, that he would be called the Son of the Most, High, God!

She was a young virgin eagerly awaiting her marriage to a nice man named Joseph. Then the angel spoke to her: “God has chosen you, Mary! You will become pregnant by the Spirit of God and you will give birth to a son, a son who you will call Yeshua, Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.”

Is it really too early to think about the coming holiday season? Not when we live away from our home country. But in case you may have forgotten, busy PW that you are, Christmas is less than two months away. So this month PW has some holiday helps for you.

Carol, a veteran PW, sent us conversion charts she has worked out during her many years in Europe. She has included lots of equivalents to help you make sure your holiday recipes turn out just right, even if you don’t how many grams make a Tablespoon. You can find the links to that information at the end of this email, so keep on reading.

Snowmen Melt, God Abides

This Christmas season, Mike and I have the joy of being with our family and friends in America. Our family members are all well, and for that we are grateful. We pray it will always be so.

We have many friends here, however, who are going through severe trials. One is fighting breast cancer; another has a daughter who is in treatment for a serious addiction. Other friends have a grown daughter having headaches so severe that they make her (and her parents) cry. The headaches have lasted for months. They came following surgery for a tumor on the otic nerve, the nerve that controls hearing. Compared to these headaches, they tell us, a migraine is unremarkable.
