Mine to Give Away

He was a special baby, this darling little boy sleeping so peacefully in his mother’s arms. He was a baby born to die . . . born to die the death of a criminal, though he would never commit a crime, never tell a lie, never even think an evil thought. Yet he was destined for such a death before he was born.

What does his mother think as she holds him, so close to her heart? How much does she know? The angel said this child he would be great, that he would be called the Son of the Most, High, God!

She was a young virgin eagerly awaiting her marriage to a nice man named Joseph. Then the angel spoke to her: “God has chosen you, Mary! You will become pregnant by the Spirit of God and you will give birth to a son, a son who you will call Yeshua, Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.”

Be Blessed

I sat staring at a blank computer screen. No topic for Peter’s Wife presented itself to me. Then I began to think about those who receive this newsletter: those I personally know, and the many I have not met. But whether we know one another personally or not, if you are a PW I do know somethings about you.

I think about the sacrifices you have made to be where you are. You may not feel it is a sacrifice, but rather a privilege. But whether you feel like it is a sacrifice or not, you will have your reward for making the choices that led you to the place you serve today.

Little Shoe in a Big City

One of my Christmas gifts this year was a copy of Sue Eenigenburg’s new book, Screams in the Desert, Hope and Humor for Women in Cross-Cultural Ministry. What a delightful, insightful, encouraging book! Sue gave permission for Peter’s Wife to reprint a chapter from the book. All 52 chapters are designed for personal reflection and group discussion. It was hard to pick a favorite chapter, but this definitely tops my list! Diane

Little Shoe in a Big City. . .Little Faith in a Big God

We were riding in one of the thousands of taxis in the capital city of our new host country. My youngest daughter had just gotten a brand new pair of shoes from her grandma. They looked so cute on her little feet. When we arrived at our destination, I got out of the taxi, paid the driver, and went on my way carrying Katie. As we were walking into the store, I noticed that one of her new shoes was missing. It had fallen off her foot in the taxi. I ran outside, but I was too late. The taxi was already gone.

Find Rest, O My Soul

Lying awake while thoughts wrestle with each other for my attention. “I must not forget. . .”,
“What if. . .?” “Will. . . do what they threatened?” “How can I forgive. . .?” Sometimes it isn’t thoughts as much as feelings. Fear. Anger. Frustration.

Then I remember, “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone. My hope is in Him.”* David wasn’t pleading with God to give him rest, he was reminding himself where to find his rest. His hope, his confident expectation was in God alone.

Do You Hesitate?

I’ve been pondering the lessons for PWs from the story of Lot’s wife. We don’t know much about her life or what made her tick. We do know, however, that when she had a chance to flee from the destruction of a very wicked town, she had to be dragged out of town by an angel. When told to run for her life and not look back, she stopped and looked back.

Two questions stood out to me from the story of Lot’s wife. Has there ever been a time when you hesitated to do something you knew God wanted you to do? Do you look back with longing to something in the past?
