Furlough- Fun or Frenzy

By pwdiane, December 2, 2001

Are you looking forward to furlough or dreading it? Probably it is a mixture of both those feelings. Since many PWs go on furlough during the summer, December seemed a good time to talk about furlough planning.

Your husband has probably already been emailing contacts to plan the itinerary. Email has made that process so much faster and easier.

Ordinary Bread

By pwdiane, November 27, 2001

Since thanksgiving should be a part of our lives all the time and not just on Thanksgiving Day, we wanted to share about our ordinary bread.

As the Children of Israel followed the Pillar of Cloud and the Pillar of Fire around a desert, they began to worry about what they would eat. You cannot grow rice in a desert and wheat doesn’t ripen overnight. What were they going to do?

God had the perfect answer. He would send them “heavenly bread” as long as they remained in the wilderness. Now God knew their hearts and also knew what He intended to accomplish in them while they were in the wilderness. That’s why He told Moses in Ex. 16:4 that he would “. . . rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.”

Ishi, My Husband

By pwdiane, October 17, 2001

From Fineke

I am originally from Holland. For the last 12 1/2 years I have been working in Bolivia, with addicted men, prisoners, streetgangs, and founding and directing of a house for addicted teenagers and will open a house for addicted girls – all run with wonderful national staff.

My walk with the Lord began when, at the age of 22 years, I received Jesus as my Savior in ‘78. I was a hurt and broken person who needed the Lord to sort out many things. In those early days I remember once disputing with the Lord about being alone. I asked Him, “But Lord, what if it’s a nice Christian man?” The Lord asked me in return, “And what if I’d rather have you alone?” You might imagine I cried, but in the end told the Lord that I was prepared to accept His preference if He insisted.

A King’s Daughter

By pwdiane, October 16, 2001

Peter’s Wife started as a way to encourage and connect wives and moms serving outside their own culture. Since I was married and a mom and the women I was meeting were in a similar situation, it seemed natural that this would be our primary focus.

Over the years, a number of single women working cross-culturally have joined our group. From time to time someone asks why we don’t have some articles written especially for the singles. No one had yet submitted an article from that perspective.

So we have a treat this month. Michelle has written about her “single” journey. We are so happy to share her story.

Safety Precautions

By pwdiane, September 14, 2001

Tuesday morning in eastern USA, was Tuesday evening on Borneo. We had enjoyed a wonderful, badly needed day of rest at a lovely resort at the foot of jungle covered mountains overlooking the South China Sea. Much of the day had been spent soaking in the pool and resting on chaise lounges. Our idyllic peace was shattered at 9:15 PM when my husband channel surfed to CNN. Pictures of the World Trade Center in a pillar of smoke and the Pentagon engulfed in flames shook us as the horror unfolded. Nothing could have prepared us for the shock.

36 hours later, we still hardly know what to say when asked how we feel. But last night my husband began a series of camp meeting addresses. With the tragedy so fresh on everyone’s minds, there really wasn’t another topic that seemed right for that session.
